Dubai- (September 15, 2002)-- Nissan Middle East FZE (NMEF) officially
launched the new Pathfinder 2003, with the newly developed 3.5-liter
DOHC V6 engine, in the Middle East markets. Accompanied by officials
from NMEF, leading Pan-Arab journalists and media representatives
were flown especially to Lebanon from the GCC and Europe to test-drive
the new model; an exercise which fully demonstrated the intensified
performance of the new Pathfinder’s enhanced engine.
The
invited media reporters and representatives witnessed a comprehensive
technical presentation on the increased power of the ’03 Pathfinder
at the Phoenicia Inter-continental Hotel in Beirut. The Hotel served
as a starting point for the diversified route of test-drives, which
NMEF was careful to prepare for this type of vehicle.
As part of the program, a crucial component- in which the increased
muscle of the new Pathfinder could manifest itself- was the ideal
miscellany of terrain that Lebanon’s geography was able to
provide; the motoring journalists tried the vehicle in areas that
were both coastal and mountainous such as Beirut, Ehden, Sawfar
and Zahle.
The test-drives that lasted for two days witnessed a variety of
activities that resulted in a memorable stay for all participants.
NMEF was keen to design a program that helped utilize the features
of the new Pathfinder as well as the time spent by the invitees.
The basic activities focused on test-driving the Pathfinder in
different terrains, in addition to a special competition including
handling and maneuvering at Mansourieh Karting club.
The
test-drives practically covered all the kinds of terrains of Lebanon,
although the focus was on highways, to show the Pathfinders new
engine power that provides more acceleration and smoother handling,
thanks to the award-winning engine VQ35DE 3.5 liter, 250 hp/6,000
rpm (M/T), 240 hp/6,000 rpm (A/T).
Additionally, the VQ engine of the Pathfinder is the eighth time
winner of the Ten Best Engines Award presented by the US automotive
journal “Ward’s Auto World”.
The test-drive program was complimented by leisure activities,
including a welcome dinner and a farewell party at one of downtown
Beirut’s famous restaurants. Journalists were also given free
time to tour Beirut and enjoy their stay.
The 2003 Pathfinder stunningly blends smoothness and power, conforming
to the needs of both, city and countryside driving. It features
a 250 hp/6,000 rpm (M/T), 240 hp/6,000 rpm (A/T) VQ35DE gasoline
engine, one that is certainly the model of efficiency. The use of
an aluminum block has decreased engine weight, and various countermeasures
minimized noise, vibration and harshness, making the new Pathfinder’s
ride remarkably smooth and quiet, yet incredibly powerful.
Perhaps one of the most satisfying aspects of a Pathfinder is that
the vehicle provides ample space and comfort. The Pathfinder’s
cabin is intelligently designed to ensure abundant space. As well,
the cabin also features built-in features such as a power-outlet
for small electrical devices, small-item storage space, a digital
compass/outside temperature gauge, rear/front cup holders, and large
door pockets. These additional practical features guarantee Pathfinder
owners the most convenient and comfortable rides.
Nissan’s
comprehensive ‘Triple Safety Initiative’ reinforces
the Pathfinder’s previously renowned emphasis on safety. ‘Control
Safety’, ‘Information Safety’, and ‘Impact
Safety’ all provide the driver with top-notch protection that
he can be sure of. An anti-lock braking system (ABS), dual front/side/curtain
SRS airbags, a high-mounted stop lamp and an impact-absorbing body,
all contribute to additional safety necessary for driving in today’s
world.
The Pathfinder’s high performance part-time 4 wheel-drive
(4WD) offers a choice of 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission
to adjust to driving conditions and preferences. The ‘limited
slip differential’, another superior aspect of the 4WD, improves
traction and directional stability, especially in slippery surfaces.
Moreover, the use of a MonoFrame body permits enhanced rigidity
and lighter weight, resulting in quieter handling, as well as improved
fuel efficiency. In addition, the front strut suspension provides
additional stability while maintaining riding comfort.
Rear seat passengers are just as pampered in the 2003 Pathfinder
as are front-seat occupants, with fully reclinable seats which can
be folded all the way forward when additional space is needed. Front
seats also feature lifters and lumbar support to enhance comfort
while driving.
Other features of the 2003 Pathfinder include a remote-control
keyless entry system for quick and convenient (un)locking, a panic
alarm for greater personal security, an Automatic Speed Control
Device (ASCD) for more comfortable driving, a fully automatic air
conditioning system with digital display, a 2-DIN audio system,
power window controls and front power seats.
The outside physical appearance of the Pathfinder is enhanced with
17” alloy wheels with 245/65R 17 tires, and a body-colored
side cladding that helps to protect the body from scratches or dents.
Entry and exit is eased with the use of a side-step rail, and a
convenient glass door provides easy access.
Options available if the customer prefers, include built-in fog
lamps, electric sunroof and roof rails, and a front guard bar with
fog lamps, amongst many others. The new 2003 Pathfinder is a brilliant
blend of power, safety, and luxury, and a remarkably valuable addition
to the Nissan line-up as the Pan-Arab media would guarantee.
